Effective Date: May 1, 2026 · Last Updated: April 17, 2026 · Version: 2026

By registering for or participating in the Call for Code AI: United Against Trafficking hackathon (the “Hackathon”), you (“Participant”) agree to the following terms. These Terms of Participation are a binding legal agreement between you and Austin AI Hub, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization. In the event of any conflict between these Terms and any other Hackathon communications, guidelines, or materials, these Terms control.

1. Eligibility

Participation is limited to individuals who are at least eighteen (18) years of age at the time of registration. By participating, you represent and confirm that you meet this requirement. Participation is void where prohibited or restricted by law. Participants are responsible for ensuring compliance with all applicable laws in their jurisdiction, including sanctions and export control regulations. Austin AI Hub may restrict participation or prize eligibility as necessary to comply with applicable international sanctions frameworks or partner requirements.

2. Individual Participation

Participation is on an individual basis (including teams composed of individuals). Teams may consist of one (1) to five (5) members. Each participant may be listed on one team only. Participation does not create any partnership, joint venture, employment, or agency relationship between Participant and Austin AI Hub, or with any affiliated entity, partner, or sponsor.

3. Nature of Competition

The Hackathon is a skill-based competition. Winners are determined based on merit using criteria established by Austin AI Hub. No element of chance is used in determining winners. Judging criteria and processes are determined solely by the organizers and may be applied at their discretion. All judging decisions are final and binding.

4. Participation and Disqualification

Participation is voluntary. Austin AI Hub may accept, reject, or remove participants or submissions in good faith, including for violations of these Terms, the Hackathon Guidelines and Rules, the Code of Conduct, or applicable laws. Disqualification may result from, but is not limited to: exploitative depictions, use of real victim data without consent, undisclosed pre-existing projects, plagiarism, solutions that facilitate trafficking, judges or organizers competing, failure to provide a working demo, absence of human oversight on high-stakes decisions, harassment or Code of Conduct violations, fraudulent team members or registrations, malicious code, or violation of data ethics policies.

5. Ownership of Submissions

Participants retain ownership of all intellectual property rights in their submissions (“Submissions”). No intellectual property transfers are required by participation in this Hackathon.

6. License to Austin AI Hub

Participants grant Austin AI Hub and its affiliates a worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free license to use, reproduce, display, distribute, and share Submissions for purposes of operating, judging, promoting, and showcasing the Hackathon and related initiatives (including press, social media, and educational use). This license remains in effect for these purposes.

7. Public Nature; No Confidentiality

Submissions are not confidential. Participants acknowledge that Submissions may be publicly displayed, shared, or discussed.

8. Intellectual Property Risk

Participants understand that public disclosure may affect patent rights. Participants are responsible for protecting their intellectual property, including checking employer obligations. Austin AI Hub is not responsible for any loss of such rights.

9. Participant Responsibilities

Participants confirm that:

  1. they own or have rights to their Submission;
  2. their Submission does not violate third-party rights;
  3. they are not submitting confidential information without permission;
  4. any data or content used complies with applicable laws and permissions;
  5. they comply with applicable open source licenses and data usage requirements;
  6. their use of AI tools complies with applicable export control and technology access laws in their jurisdiction.

10. Indemnification

Participants agree to indemnify and hold harmless Austin AI Hub, Call for Code, UN Human Rights, and their respective officers, directors, employees, and agents from any claims, damages, or expenses arising from infringement, misappropriation, or material violations of these Terms.

12. Prizes

Prizes are subject to sponsor participation, funding availability, legal requirements, and operational considerations. Austin AI Hub will use reasonable efforts to deliver prizes but may modify or substitute them if necessary. Prize eligibility and delivery may be limited by applicable laws, sanctions, or logistical constraints. Austin AI Hub may substitute or withhold prizes where required.

13. Taxes

Participants are responsible for any taxes or reporting obligations related to prizes. Austin AI Hub may require tax documentation before awarding prizes.

14. Winner Verification and Disqualification

Austin AI Hub may require potential winners to verify their identity, location, and eligibility before receiving any prize, including by providing identifying information or documentation. Austin AI Hub reserves the right to withhold prizes pending verification and to disqualify any participant who provides false, inaccurate, or misleading information or fails to complete the verification process.

15. No Reliance

Participants agree that they are not relying on any specific sponsor, partner, judge, or prize beyond what is stated in these Terms.

16. No Guarantee of Outcomes

Participation does not guarantee exposure, funding, employment, or other opportunities.

19. Withdrawal

Participants may withdraw their Submission by written notice at least fifteen (15) days before the final submission deadline (July 9, 2026). Withdrawal removes the Submission from further participation; however, any prior use and the granted license remain in effect.

20. Code of Conduct

Participants agree to act respectfully and professionally. Austin AI Hub may remove participants for inappropriate, disruptive, harassing, or exploitative behavior. A detailed Code of Conduct is published in the Hackathon Guidelines and Rules. Violations of the Code of Conduct are violations of these Terms.
